Vaccinations
Our comprehensive vaccination and deworming protocol for healthy puppies
At Harris Heritage Dachshunds, we follow the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) vaccination guidelines to ensure every puppy leaves our care fully protected. Each puppy receives age-appropriate vaccinations and a thorough deworming program.
Vaccination Schedule
Every puppy receives the following vaccinations before going to their new home:
Puppies leaving before 12 weeks will have received all vaccinations appropriate for their age. Your veterinarian will complete the remaining schedule.
Deworming Protocol
All puppies are dewormed on a regular schedule starting at 2 weeks of age:
- 2 weeks - First deworming treatment
- 4 weeks - Second deworming treatment
- 6 weeks - Third deworming treatment
- 8 weeks - Fourth deworming treatment
- 10 weeks - Fifth deworming treatment (if still with us)
We use veterinary-grade deworming medications effective against roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.
What You Receive
When your puppy comes home, you will receive:
- Complete vaccination record with dates and vaccine brands
- Deworming history and schedule
- Veterinary health certificate
- Recommended future vaccination schedule
- Flea and tick prevention guidance
- Heartworm prevention recommendations
Continuing Care After Adoption
After you bring your puppy home, it is important to continue the vaccination schedule with your own veterinarian. We recommend:
Schedule a checkup with your veterinarian within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home to establish care.
Core vaccines (DHPP and Rabies) require annual or triennial boosters as recommended by your vet.
Start monthly heartworm prevention medication as recommended by your veterinarian, especially important in warmer climates.
Use a veterinarian-recommended flea and tick prevention product year-round to protect your Dachshund.
